KITTITAS COUNTY
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
SUDY SESSION STAFF REPORT
STUDY SESSION DATE: July 24, 2017
ACTION REQUESTED: Approve the Resolution to Award the
Huntzinger Road Safety Improvements Project.
BACKGROUND: The Department of Public Works solicited bids
for the Huntzinger Road Traffic Safety contract
in accordance with RCW 36.77.020 Contract
Procedures. Sealed Bids were opened on July
14, 2017 at 10am.
Two (2) bids were received for the prescribed
work. The lowest responsive bid was Petersen
Brothers, Inc., in the amount of $407,526.59
approximately 5% under the Engineer's
Estimate of $431,316.90.
This contract provides for safety improvements
of Huntzinger Road, by installing guardrail as
needed from I-90 to the State Park.
The total HSIP funds allocated for construction
improvements on Westside Road and
Huntzinger Road was $511,402.00. The
Westside Road Safety project was completed
with approximately $136,760.00 of HSIP funds
still available for reimbursement. The
remaining $271,066.59 required to complete the
Huntzinger Road improvements will be
funded by the road fund.
Future investments from Grant County PUD
along the Huntzinger corridor has motivated
Public Works to be proactive and improve
safety by protecting existing roadside hazards
with guardrail.
