JULY 27, 2017 <br /> <br />Board members present: Chairman Paul Jewell; Vice-Chairman Laura <br />Osiadacz; and Commissioner Obie O’Brien. <br /> <br />Others: Julie Kjorsvik, Clerk of the Board; Mark Cook, Public Works <br />Director; Lucas Huck, Engineer; Jill Scheffer, Event Center Director <br />& Ellensburg City Council Member; Karen Hodges, Planner III; and <br />approximately 20 members of the public. <br /> <br />SPECIAL MEETING WA WILDLIFE RECREATION COMMISSION COMMISSIONERS <br /> <br />At 3:00 p.m. CHAIRMAN JEWELL opened a Special Meeting with <br />representatives from the Washington Wildlife and Recreation <br />Coalition and the Washington State Recreation and Conservation <br />Office. He reviewed work that has been going on in the County to <br />help improve recreation opportunities. He said the meeting was to <br />receive information about existing Statewide opportunities that may <br />assist and increase entities efforts in obtaining grant funding for <br />certain projects which fit into certain categories. <br /> <br />He described the County’s Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Plan and <br />the prerequisite to filing an application for grant programs <br />administered by the Recreation and Conservation Office. He noted <br />they would also be holding an open house in Cle Elum at 6:00 p.m. to <br />provide information and answer questions. <br /> <br />ANDREA McNAMARA DOYLE, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR and ROB SENDAK, EXTERNAL <br />AFFAIRS MANAGER OF THE WASHINGTON WILDLIFE & RECREATION COALITION <br />reviewed the organization’s program and roles. They presented <br />information on existing Statewide grant opportunities for recreation <br />improvements and how they could assist entities. The WWRP is the <br />State’s premier conservation and recreation program which provides <br />matching funds to create new local and State parks, protect wildlife <br />habitat and preserve working lands. They reviewed some of the funded <br />projects in Kittitas County that included critical habitat, trails, <br />farmland preservation and a splash pad at a local city park. <br /> <br />The next round of grants will be in May 2018 and alternate years <br />thereafter. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
