June 26, 2017
Mr. Todd Trepanier
Regional Administrator,
2809 Rudkin Road
Kittitas County, Washington
BOARD oa; COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
District One District Two District Three
Paul Jewell Laura Osiadacz Obie O'Brien
WSDOT South Central Region
Union Gap, WA 98903-1648
Dear Mr. Trepanier:
Recently, residents along West Nelson Siding Road in Kittitas County have been subjugated to
heavy traffic loads during periods of traffic delay on Interstate 90 (I-90). Residents report that
increasingly those bypassing slow traffic on 1-90 are publically urinating and defecating along
West Nelson Siding Road and in private driveways. Kittitas County is currently evaluating our
ability closing the roadway to all but local traffic during summer months — recognizing declining
sanitation safety along West Nelson Siding Road.
Providing the County elects pursuing weekend road closures, what assistance can WSDOT offer
supporting our closure? Are there any actions that WSDOT can take minimizing the departure of
I-90 traffic onto West Nelson Siding Road during periods of slow moving or stopped traffic?
Can the off -ramps begned: "Local Traffic Only"?
ala r your thoughts and assistance in this matter.
E 1ghl Jysl'C'tair'rYn
i
I-aura.(A Vice-( lii.rman
Obie O'Brien, Commissioner
C: Mr. Mark R, Cook, Public Works Director
Ms. Robin Reed, Public Health Director
Kittitas County Courthouse: 205 West 5"Avenue, STE io8 Ellensburg, WA 98926
(509) 962-7508 'FAX (509) 962-7679
www,co. k ittitas.wa.us
