I really believe working together and meeting regularly benefits us all. I
appreciate your willingness to jump right in and learn as much as you can to make the Event Center all it can be. The list
we have compiled is a great start. I want to work with you to bring the Rodeo side of the Event Center up to the
standard that it should be to put on a world class event. I'm happy to see that you have already started on some items,
and you are working towards getting bids and completing other items. As we talked last week, The Rodeo is willing to
help with that list too. We have an all -volunteer force of Rodeo Board members and Top Hands that don't mind pitching
in and rolling our sleeves up. I am working on putting together a couple of work party days to tackle some items to
make the grounds better. It sounds like you have a budget to buy some supplies, such as lumber to replace faulty
boards in the grandstands and such. We could do some of that work on one of our work days. We also discussed other
projects that would benefit the Rodeo and the Event Center both. Such as replacing posts and rails in some of the pens,
and maybe building some more permanent pens between the director's barns. (as in attached photo). My proposal to
you, is for us to do some of that work if the county will cover the cost of materials. It has become clear that you are
shorthanded on you crew, with the loss of a couple of key employees and the loss of the inmate program. Hopefully the
Commissioners will consider letting you fill those positions. For now, it looks like we may need to step in and get some
items crossed off the list. As we talked too, the timeline in our contract needs to be reworked to benefit both of us. We
need to talk more about moving the dates up to a more reasonable timeline. I think we both agree on that. We should
probable have our first walkthrough by November, and give the County until maybe June to complete the list. That
would help your budgeting and our planning as well.
For this year, we need to tackle some of these tasks before the August 15th date in the contract, in order to get them
done by our event. To do that, we would be happy to supply the labor if the County will pay for materials. That could
take place by using the $25,000 credit that is already in our contract. The items we would be working on would be
things that you already know the county staff won't be able to get done by August, so essentially the only thing that
changes in our contract is the timeline of when that can happen.
Please let me know if this approach is acceptable to the Commissioners, so we can plan to move forward.
Thank you for your cooperation,
Dan Morgan
Ellensburg Rodeo Director
509-929-5555
dmorgan1242Pfairooint.net
www.eliensburgrodec.com 800-637-2444
609 North Main Ellensburg, WA 98926
