KITTITAS COUNTY <br />DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS <br />STUDY SESSION STAFF REPORT <br />STUDY SESSION DATE: March 13th, 2017 <br />ACTION REQUESTED: Approve a Notice of Call for Sealed Bids for the <br />Manufacture and Supply of Aggregate for Bituminous <br />Surface Treatment <br />BACKGROUND: Kittitas County Public Works goes out to bid for the <br />furnishing of Bituminous Surface Treatment (BST) rock <br />products annually. <br />The contract has been revised from past practice, and now <br />guarantees vendors the purchase of the identified quantities <br />for each material by Kittitas County Public Works. <br />By doing so Public Works has the ability to test and if <br />necessary reject unsatisfactory material prior to the start of <br />the chip seal program in July. This will result in. better <br />control over the quality of rock purchased and used on <br />county roadways. Additionally it should result in more <br />consistent applications and potentially longer life spans for <br />our BST surfacing. <br />This change in business practice will require the stockpiling <br />of chip rock material at various locations throughout the <br />county. This allows Public Works to begin to build <br />inventory, and have material available year round in the <br />event projects transpire that require the hard surfacing of <br />roadways with a BST outside of the normal July chip seal <br />program. <br />Bids are scheduled to be opened on March 30th, 2017 at <br />2:00 p.m. in the Public Works Department. <br />INTERACTION: Public Works <br />RECOMMENDATION: Move to approve Notice of Call for Sealed Bids for the <br />Manufacture and Supply of Aggregate for Bituminous <br />Surface Treatment <br />HANDLING: Return one (1) copy to Public Works <br />ATTACHMENTS: Notice of Call for Bids <br />LEAD STAFF: Lucas Huck, County Engineer <br />
