KITTITAS COUNTY
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
STUDY SESSION STAFF REPORT
STUDY SESSION DATE: February 27, 2017
ACTION REQUESTED: Informational Only
BACKGROUND: Public Works entered into an agreement with the
Washington State Department of Transportation
(WSDOT) to repair Bridge Number 89091 on Naneum
Road.
The repairs needed for the bridge include the
replacement of the timber caps and timber uprights
which are showing signs of significant deterioration.
Additionally one of the concrete abutment footings is
undermined approximately 2.5' which has resulted in
a vertical crack in the center of the abutment
extending through the footing.
Public Works agreed with a WSDOT provided repair
estimate of $23,676 which included the purchase of
the materials and all costs associated with the repairs.
Both WSDOT and Public Works agree the repairs
must be completed by April 1st 2017. Recently it has
been brought to our attention that the materials may
not be delivered until mid -march 2017 which could
hinder the ability for us to meet the April 1st deadline
which coincides with the startup of the 2017 irrigation
season.
Public Works recognizes that if these repairs are not
completed the need for additional consultant
inspections will be necessary and may require the
bridge to either be reduced to one lane for through
traffic or closed entirely until the repairs are
completed in the fall of 2017 following the
commencement of irrigation season.
INTERACTION: Public Works
