2/21/2017 MINUTES 2
Meeting with the Board of County Commissioners held on June 18,
2009. Each Commissioner reviewed discussions held with their
respective departments and exchanged details of those meetings. On
January 3, 2011 the Board determined it would be beneficial to
alternate Commissioners that will oversee the different Department
Head’s on an annual basis. They determined at the end of 2013 they
would review the various committees they participate in and provide
beneficial updates to the Board as needed during this time as well.

OTHER BUSINESS-

Chairman Jewell gave a brief update on current Legislative issues.

Mike Burtness, Citizen presented a letter to the Board regarding the
property at 830 North Poplar Street (bowling alley). He stated that
it was to serve as his group’s intent to make an offer to lease the
property. He stated that his group has been meeting since their
tour in December of the bowling alley to come up with their mission
and business plan for “Mel’s Bowl and Fun Center”. He stated that
it’s their goal to provide a place for all age’s entertainment while
also partnering with local schools to allow for the expansion of
their bowling programs. He said they have been assured non-profit
status through the Laughing Horse Arts Foundation and are currently
refining their business plan and forming the Board of Directors. He
stated that their intent is to provide the County with a formal
offer before 3/15/2017. Mr. Burness reviewed a trip he took to Santa
Fe, New Mexico where he toured a place called Meow Wolf and
explained that it inspired a lot of ideas he would like to bring to
life in Kittitas County. Chairman Jewell stated that he would be
very interested in seeing a financing plan. The Board encouraged
Mr. Burtness to get the proposal in as quick as possible for the
County to consider.

Meeting adjourned at 9:40 a.m.

KITTITAS COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
DEPUTY CLERK OF THE BOARD KITTITAS COUNTY, WASHINGTON

Mandy Buchholz Paul Jewell, Chairman
