BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
COUNTY OF KITTITAS
STATE OF WASHINGTON
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CLAIMS ADMINISTRATOR
TO APPROVE OR REJECT CLAIMS UP TO $500 IN VALUE.
RESOLUTION NO. 2016 - 1
Whereas: Kittitas County Code Section 2.72.020 sets forth the procedure for review of
claims filed against Kittitas County, which is for the Claims Administrator in the
Prosecutor's Office to review and investigate a claim, and then report to the
Board of County Commissioners for final review and decision;
Whereas: Currently, all claims, regardless of amount, are presented to the Board of County
Commissioners for final review and decision;
Whereas: It is an inefficient and expensive use of staff time and resources for the Board of
County Commissioners to review and decide all claims, regardless of amount;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Claims Administrator in the Kittitas County
Prosecuting Attorney's Office is authorized to approve or reject claims up to $500 in value
without obtaining final review and decision from the Board of County Commissioners. This
authority is conditioned, however, on the following:
1) all claims must still be delivered to the Auditor's Office;
2) the Board of County Commissioners must receive a copy of all filed claims and notice
of the Claims Administrator's decision;
3) the Claims Administrator will not make a final decision over the objection of the
Elected Official/Department Head of the Office/Department the claim was filed against.
Should such a dispute arise, the claim will be submitted to the Board of County
Commissioners for final review and decision; and
4) the Claims Administrator will communicate with the Risk Manager to ensure all risk
management issues are identified and appropriately addressed.
Page 1 of 2
