KITTITAS COUNTY
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
PUBLIC WORKS — BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
WORK SESSION STAFF REPORT
WORK SESSION DATE: March 28, 2016
TOPIC: Sargent Engineers, Inc. Task Order No. 12
ACTION REQUESTED: Request to Authorize the Directors Signature on the
Task Order
LEAD STAFF: Mark R. Cook
RECOMMENDATION:
Authorize the Director's signature on the Task Order.
BACKGROUND:
Ongoing bridge inspections are revealing structural issues of concern requiring
structural engineering evaluation. On 3-23-2016, a site visit to Hungry Junction
Road (Cascade Canal crossing) identified significant corrosion of exterior girder
reinforcing steel. Portions of the reinforcing steel can now be removed by hand.
DISCUSSION:
While the reinforcing steel corrosion appears bad, a structural evaluation from
Sargent Engineers, Inc. will likely define any necessary remediation efforts.
Public Works anticipates additional needs during our 2016 bridge inspection
cycle. Having access to on-call inspection services will minimize delays
responding to inspections of concern going forward in 2016.
FISCAL IMPACTS:
$10,000 is requested for initial task order authorization.
ATTACHMENTS:
EXHIBIT 1: Task Order No. 12
PUBLIC WORKS BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS WORK SESSION STAFF REPORT
