MAY 24, 2016 <br /> <br />Board members present: Chairman Obie O’Brien; Vice-Chairman Paul <br />Jewell and Commissioner Laura Osiadacz. <br /> <br />Others: HAHC members: Ed Barry, Nancy Goodloe, David Miller, Jack <br />Frost, and Robin Read; Debbie Myers, HAHC Clerk; and approximately <br />44 members of the public. Interpreter present. <br /> <br />SPECIAL MEETING HOMELESS AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING COMMITTEE BOCC <br /> <br />At 3:31 P.m. Chairman O’Brien opened a Special Meeting to discuss <br />common goals with the Homelessness & Affordable Housing Committee <br />(HAHC). Chairman O’Brien introduced new Commissioner Osiadacz to <br />the committee and had the committee and public introduce themselves. <br /> <br />Commissioner Osiadacz who is the new HAHC Chairman said the <br />committee is concerned, and would like direction from the BOCC in <br />how they could help the people who will be impacted with the <br />possible sale of Shady Acres. <br /> <br />Nancy Goodloe said the committee had a lot of questions but no <br />answers. She also said the tentative one year timeline seemed a <br />short period of time and asked if it could be extended. Ms. Goodloe <br />asked about the Homeless Network’s possible involvement and said the <br />Network is a large group of providers with broad experiences who <br />would be helpful. Robin Read said the committee members have some <br />expertise and asked if they had a role beyond the traditional HAHC <br />role. She also asked if some of the HAHC funds could be used in <br />this situation. <br /> <br />Chairman O’Brien said the HAHC was put together to assist the BOCC <br />with recommendations regarding affordable housing, the reduction of <br />homelessness, and working on the county’s 10 year plan to address <br />these issues. <br /> <br />Vice-Chairman Jewell said regarding the timeline-there is no <br />timeline, and there will be no timeline to close Shady Brook until <br />they have options for safe and affordable housing for everyone. He <br />also said these are good questions and he hopes some of the HAHC <br />funds will be able to be utilized for this situation. <br /> <br />Chairman O’Brien commented that the owners of Shady Brook approached <br />the Commissioners regarding purchasing because the owners were
