He was elected to serve a four year term beginning January 1, 2019 through December 31, 2022. <br />The office of the Sheriff is a partisan position. However, because Sheriff Dana is an Independent there <br />is no party to put forth a slate of three candidates. In accordance with RCW 36.16.110(1) the Kittitas <br />County Board of Commissioners shall fill the vacancy by the appointment of a person qualified to hold <br />such office until the next general election, and until their successors are elected and qualified. The <br />actual selection of a replacement must be made promptly after the vacancy actually occurs, and if not <br />made within sixty days, the Governor shall decide. <br />The Kittitas County Board of Commissioners is soliciting letters of interest from individuals who <br />would like to be considered for the appointment of Kittitas County Sheriff once the position has been <br />vacated. The person who is appointed will have to stand for election at the next General Election in the <br />fall of 2020. Candidates must reside in Kittitas County and have the necessary credentials to serve in <br />law enforcement, or obtain within twelve months of assuming office a certificate of completion of a <br />basic law enforcement training program as per RCW 36.28.025. <br />We would like to invite you, or a designee from your agency, to be a part of a panel that will be tasked <br />with reviewing letters of interest and interviewing prospective candidates. The panel will convene on <br />October 11, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Commissioners' Conference Room to select a Chairman and <br />develop a list of prerequisite qualifications and scoring criteria for the office of Sheriff.
