JANUARY 13, 2020 <br /> <br /> <br />Board members present: Vice-Chairman Laura Osiadacz and Commissioner <br />Cory Wright. Absent: Chairman Brett Wachsmith. <br /> <br />Others: Mandy Buchholz, Deputy Clerk of the Board II; Clay Myers, <br />Sheriff; Neil Caulkins, Deputy Prosecutor; Mark Cook, Public Works <br />Director/Interim County Engineer. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION KCSO CONCERNS/IMPACTS PUBLIC WORKS <br /> <br />At 1:00 p.m. Chairman Wachsmith opened a Special Meeting to discuss <br />with Sheriff Clay Myers unintended impacts to their office by <br />Resolution and/or Ordinances approved by the BoCC. <br /> <br />Clay Myers, Sheriff explained the impacts to his office that came <br />from the recent passing of Ordinance 2019-012 No. Amending LCC <br />10.06.050 and Kittitas County Code 10.07.060 (Towing and Impounding <br />Violating Parking Restrictions). He explained that his office wasn’t <br />engaged in the conversation leading up to the Ordinance being <br />considered and there are details left out of the Ordinance that need <br />to be addressed. He explained that when it becomes enforceable there <br />are impacts to his office and planning that needs to be done. He <br />stated that this has happened two other times in the past and he <br />would like to find a way to avoid it in the future. He stated that <br />residents are calling wanting to know why this new code is not being <br />enforced now, and feels his office was blindsided. <br /> <br />There was discussion on what went wrong and possible solutions to <br />the problem moving forward. <br /> <br />Director Cook stated that he will re-notice the Hearing to address <br />the concerns brought forward as well as other edits were requested <br />for a later date. <br /> <br />Sheriff Myers stated that he would work on educating the residents <br />and would be happy to send Commander Kokjer with Director Cook to <br />meet with them. <br /> <br />Commissioner Osiadacz stated that she will send IT a request to have <br />Department Heads & Elected Officials included on all notices of <br />Resolutions & Ordinances the Board is considering in the future. <br />
