<br />4-1 <br />CHAPTER 4. <br />KITTITAS COUNTY PROFILE <br />Kittitas County is located in south-central Washington (see Figure 4-1. ). The county covers 2,315 square <br />miles of highly varied terrain and climates. It is the 25th most populous county in the state and the eighth <br />largest in area. The county is bounded to the north by Chelan and Snohomish Counties, to the south by <br />Yakima County, to the east by Grant County, and to the west by King and Pierce Counties. The Pacific <br />Crest Trail in the Cascade Range forms its western boundary, and the Columbia River forms its eastern <br />boundary. <br /> <br />Figure 4-1. Main Features of Kittitas County <br />4.1. JURISDICTIONS AND ATTRACTIONS <br />Kittitas County contains 10 U.S. Census recognized communities, five of which are incorporated <br />jurisdictions (Cle Elum, Ellensburg, Kittitas, Roslyn and South Cle Elum). The other areas include the <br />towns of Easton, Ronald, Snoqualmie Pass, Thorp and Vantage. Ellensburg, in the southeast part of the <br />county, is the county seat. <br />Kittitas County is one of the most geographically diverse areas in the Pacific Northwest. Its diverse terrain <br />offers many recreational opportunities: <br />• Skiing, cross-country, snow-shoeing, snowmobiling <br />• Rafting, kayaking, boating, waterskiing <br />• Camping, horseback riding <br />• Fishing <br />• Hiking
