Prolonged rain could produce flooding, overtopped culverts with <br />ponded water on roads, and landslides on steep slopes. Flooding and landslides could further obstruct roads <br />and bridges, further isolating residents. <br />13.9. ISSUES <br />Important issues associated with a severe weather in the Kittitas County planning area include the <br />following: <br />• Older building stock in the planning area is built to low code standards or none at all. These <br />structures could be highly vulnerable to severe weather events such as windstorms. <br />• Redundancy of power supply must be evaluated. <br />• The capacity for backup power generation is limited. <br />• Isolated population centers. <br />• Public education on dealing with the impacts of severe weather. <br />• Snow removal <br />• Debris management (downed trees, etc.). <br />
