FLOOD <br />11-18 <br />• Population over 65 Years Old— Approximately 6 percent of the population in the census <br />blocks that intersect the 100-year or 500-year floodplain are over 65 years old. <br />• Population under 16 Years Old— Approximately 9 percent of the population within census <br />blocks located in or near the 100-year or 500-year floodplain are under 16 years of age. <br />11.6.2 Property <br />Hazus calculates losses to structures from flooding by looking at depth of flooding and type of structure. <br />Using historical flood insurance claim data, Hazus estimates the percentage of damage to structures and <br />their contents by applying established damage functions to an inventory. For this analysis, local data on <br />structures was used instead of the default inventory data provided with Hazus. The analysis is summarized <br />in Table 11-10 and Table 11-11 for the 100-year and 500-year flood events, respectively. <br /> <br />Table 11-10.
