NEHRP Seismic Soil Site Classes for Kittitas County <br />Liquefaction Maps <br />Soil liquefaction maps are useful tools to assess potential damage from earthquakes. When the ground <br />liquefies, sandy or silty materials saturated with water behave like a liquid, causing pipes to leak, roads and <br />airport runways to buckle, and building foundations to be damaged. In general, areas with NEHRP Soils D, <br />E and F are also susceptible to liquefaction. If there is a dry soil crust, excess water will somet imes come <br />to the surface through cracks in the confining layer, bringing liquefied sand with it, creating sand boils. <br />Figure 10-8 shows the liquefaction susceptibility in Kittitas County.
