Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation
Established by the Treaty of June 9,1855
Post Office Box 151
Toppenish Washington98948
Chelsea Benner July 11,2019
Planner I
Kittitas County Community Development Services
411 N Ruby Street,Suite 2
Ellensburg,WA 98926
RE:LP-19-00002
Suncadia Phase 3
Dear Ms.Benner,
Thank you for contacting the Yakama Nation regarding LP-19-00002. The location of the short plat is a
high probability area for encountering cultural resources.Three previously recorded sites are located
within the long plat boundaries.Site 45KT1363 in particular is at least 8000 years old, indicating
documentedancient use of this landscape, and signaling the heightenedpotential for additional significant
finds.Elder testimony at the time of the 1998 surveys indicated this area to contain burial sites.
While portions of this proposed long plat have been previously surveyed, the surveys were conducted 20
years ago (1997 and 1998). We request full re-survey of the long plat parcels. Please provide our office a
copy of the survey report for review once completed.
In response, please feel free to contact Yakama Nation Archaeologist,Jessica Lally at 509-865-5121
x4766.
Sincerely,
Johnson Meninick,
Yakama Nation Cultural Resources ProgramManager
CC:Dennis Wardlaw,DAHP
Index #29
