Kittitas County December 2016 Comprehensive Plan <br />III.14 Goal: Encourage development of building codes for the community that are compatible with <br />the mountain environment. These codes should include the height and exterior materials of <br />buildings as well as site design and snow management for each structure. <br />Objectives: <br />1. Standards should be set encouraging high density housing at each village center, with <br />density reducing with distance from the village centers. <br />2. Designs and signage should be carefully reviewed in order to avoid a garish, overly <br />competitive visual environment. <br />3. Standards and programs for the enhancement of the alpine setting should be developed, <br />including standards for revegetation and programs for landscaping along entry corridors and <br />in other prominent public areas. <br />III.15 Goal: Promote the development of uses, which will provide goods and services to both <br />residents and visitors. <br />Objectives: <br />1. The variety of available goods and services should be broadened to reduce the requirement <br />to travel off the Pass for normal daily needs. <br />2. Special services and facilities should be provided which are oriented to the recreational <br />visitor, so as to enhance the available recreational opportunities. <br />III.16 Goal: Provide public services and facilities, which will enhance the livability of the Pass for <br />residents. <br />Objectives: <br />1. Social and cultural opportunities such as a community center, library, museum, etc. should <br />be planned for and provided. <br />2. Health and public safety facilities and services such as an2 immediate care clinic, improved <br />emergency response, garbage pick up and recycling etc. should be planned for and <br />provided. <br />3.6.1 Description of Village or Activity Centers <br />Alpental <br />The non-residential area of Alpental should be primarily oriented toward serving skiers. <br />Overnight lodging, consistent with a destination resort area, may be added and accessory uses <br />such as restaurants, lounges, equipment and clothing shops might be expected. Commercial <br />activity would be concentrated at or near the base of the ski slopes.
