Kittitas County Solid Waste Programs
925 Industrial Way, Ellensburg, WA 98926
Telephone: (509) 962-7542
Fax: (509) 962-7087
DATE: 3/14/19
TO: Kittitas County Commissioners Office
FROM: Bryan Nass
RE: Event Application — Gran Fondo
The Solid Waste Programs department is satisfied with the applicants' proposed handling of
solid waste (garbage and recyclables), as per below.
I contacted Jake Maedke, on 3/13/19 to clarify aspects of the application and obtain additional
information.
The event starts at Mt. Stuart elementary and timing ends at the Iron Horse trail @ Gladmar Rd,
although the bikers will continue back to the school parking lot as the final destination. This is
important only insofar as bikers will not be racing any longer on the last leg back as a traffic
safety precaution.
The application includes a location use agreement with Goldendale School, however this was
supposed to be the agreement the organizer has with Mt. Stuart elementary (correct letter is
available upon request).
There are two Aid Stations on the route; one located at approximately mile 27 & 67 (single
location passed twice), and a second at mile 56 (Taneum Campground). A garbage/recycling
bin will be available at each Aid Station, as well as the Start/Finish area. Recyclables will be
separated from garbage as needed. A follow vehicle will tag behind the riders and pick up any
materials dropped by the riders (which is expected to be zero). Garbage and recycling will be
consolidated for disposal at Mt. Stuart school.
A revised map from the organizer is attached to illustrate the Aid Station.
