DATE: 3/5/19
Kittitas County Solid Waste Programs
925 Industrial Way, Ellensburg, WA 98926
Telephone: (509) 962-7542
Fax: (509) 962-7087
TO: Kittitas County Commissioners Office
FROM Bryan Nass
RE: Event Application - Yakima River Canyon Marathon
The Solid Waste Programs department is satisfied with the applicants' proposed handling of
solid waste, as per below.
Section 5, Garbage/Recycling, of the application is not specific enough regarding infrastructure
and process for KCSW to be certain that garbage and recyclables will be appropriately handled
during the event. Therefore, I contacted the new event coordinator, Mr. Frank Purdy (509-961-
9769), to obtain the necessary details. Mr. Purdy indicated that trash/recycle bins and
commercially maintained port-a-potti's will be located at the start, finish, and each aid station.
Their garbage consists predominantly of paper cups and food wrappers, and the recycling is
mostly plastic. They will separate any recyclables from garbage where they get mixed. As per
the written plan, all garbage and recyclables will be disposed of in Yakima County.
