County ordinance <br />prohibits the operation of motor-powered watercraft on the <br />Yakima River from Mile Post 146.1 to Roza Campground. <br /> <br />River shoreline activities <br /> <br />Recreationalists engage in a variety of activities on the shore that <br />involve different supporting facilities including: <br /> <br />Wildlife trails <br />Short walks or hikes, including ADA enhanced, to view fish, birds, <br />mammals, and other wildlife on dirt, gravel, or asphalt paths <br />through woodlands, wetlands, and other habitat areas within a <br />public access site’s boundaries including: <br /> <br />§ Every publicly accessible site in the rivers inventory suitable <br />and improved or proposed to be improved with paths and trails <br />through wildlife habitat areas <br />§ Lands owned and managed by USFS, WDFW, DNR, P&RC, BPA, <br />BOR, and BLM as well as Kittitas County, Cle Elum, Ellensburg <br />§ Suncadia and a number of other private properties along the <br />riverfronts <br /> <br />Multipurpose trail connections <br />Extended day hiking, biking, and in some instances, horseback <br />riding on multipurpose trails that exist or are proposed to be <br />connected to publicly accessible sites or adjacent lands including: <br /> <br />§ Palouse to Cascade Trail (PTC Trail – former Iron Horse Trail) <br />– a 285-mile reuse of the former Chicago Milwaukee & Saint Paul <br />(CM&SP) Railroad corridor from North Bend to Spokane with <br />numerous existing trailheads or roadside accesses at Stampede Pass <br />Road south of Stampede Pass Bridge Access, Monahan Road at Cabin <br />Creek Access, Lake Easton State Park, Cabin Creek Road in Easton, <br />Three Bridges Access on Pebble Beach Drive, Bullfrog Road South <br />Access, Lower Peoh Point Road in South Cle Elum, East Taneum <br />Road in Thorp, Goodwin and Thorp Depot Roads in Thorp, Gladmar <br />Road Conservancy in Thorp, US-97 in Ellensburg, Faust and Sinclair <br />Roads in Ellensburg, Reecer Creek Road in Ellensburg, West 14th <br />Avenue in Ellensburg, and Alder Street at the Kittitas Valley Event <br />Center, <br />§ Proposed PTC Trail connections – by river crossing suspension <br />bridges to the remote 18-mile stretch of PTC Trail from South Cle <br />Elum to Thorp at the proposed public access sites at the proposed <br />Old Church Camp Access across DNR lands and Swauk Creek <br />Access. <br />§ Cle Elum Skyline Trail connections – between the 5.0-mile Coal <br />Miners Trail (CMT) from Roslyn south through Wye Park and <br />Memorial/Fireman’s Park to the PCT at Peoh Point Road, and <br />potentially on the levy and Whispering Pines Drive on the north <br />shore of the Yakima River through Hanson Ponds/Kiwanis Fishing <br />Ponds. <br />§ Ellensburg City-to-Canyon Trail connections – extending from <br />the PCT Trail at Reecer Creek Road then through Rotary Park to <br />Irene Rinehart Riverfront Park Access then south in various <br />alignments through the Hanson Pits/Tjossem Ditch Access, then the <br />combined BPA, BLM, WDFW, Ellensburg, and Kittitas County <br />conservancy lands to the proposed Thrall Road/Wilson Creek <br />Access. <br /> <br />Picnicking and day-use areas <br />Day-use facilities for individual, family, and group picnics, <br />gatherings, and events activities are currently provided at scattered <br />public access sites in Easton, Cle Elum, Ellensburg, and the Lower <br />Canyon. Day-use facilities with picnic tables, shelters, and toilets <br />are proposed on existing and proposed new public access sites to <br />close gaps and increase access to day-use opportunities between <br />Cle Elum and Ellensburg:
