In February 2016, Arnett Muldrow & Associates completed a Downtown Market Study <br />and Economic Development Plan for the EBDA. It included the results of a zip code <br />survey which defined what groups were shopping in downtown during the summer <br />2015 as well as a retail market analysis, trade area demographics and market <br />segmentation. The study looked at vacant/underutilized buildings and lots and identified <br />phases of opportunity zones. <br />Four themes emerged from the study that now guide the future for the downtown. The <br />ideas of Reinforcing the Center, Expanding Success, Connecting the Community, and <br />Enhancing the Visitor Experience tell that story that downtown Ellensburg has <br />experienced new growth and should recognize that "revitalization" is no longer the road <br />to future success. <br />From these themes, key projects and focus developed, which The Downtowners are <br />continuing to advance. <br />Mission, vision, core principles <br />In the fall of 2017, the EBDA created a subcommittee to work on reviewing their <br />mission, vision and core principles. After several meetings of the subcommittee and the <br />full board, the following mission, vision, and core principles were approved by the <br />board: <br />MISSION: The mission ·of the Ellensburg Business Development Authority <br />(EBDA) is to strategically recruit and support businesses, and connect them to <br />resources so they can start, grow, and prosper. <br />VISION: The EBDA has an active role to ensure Ellensburg has a vibrant and <br />prosperous local economy that values Its history and natural beauty. <br />CORE PRINCIPLES: <br />1) Build and sustain mutually beneficial partnerships <br />2) Antlclpate business opportunities and development <br />3) Enhance living standards and economic vitality in Ellensburg <br />4) Use creativity and Innovation to accomplish our work <br />5) Be accountable, professional, and transparent <br />WHAT DO BUSINESSES NEED? <br />In order to establish Ellensburg's competitive position, the board reviewed studies of <br />what factors are key to attracting business to communities in the Pacific Northwest. <br />Many academic, government, and business organizations have done this work and
