Employment
In Kittitas County employment grew at a rate of 2.5%
between 2000 and 2008. The County suffered job losses
during the recession beginning in 2009, and since then job
growth has been stagnant or slow. In 2014, county
employment finally surpassed the 2008 peak. During the
entire period of 2000 — 2014, county employment grew at
an average annual rate of 1,4%. The employment sectors
with the highest growth between 2000 and 2014 were
professional and business services, and the leisure and
hospitality sectors (Table 21). The Washington State
Employment Security Department has projected that
these two sectors, and Education and Health Services, will
experience the highest growth rates over the next several
years. Many of EllensbuWs top employers are in these
sectors.
Table 21.
