ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT <br />OVERVIEW <br />This chapter contains goals, policies, and programs <br />to define Ellensburg's role in economic <br />development, and to help the City build a healthy <br />economy. Although most economic activity is in <br />the private sector, local government's role is to <br />establish parameters for private markets, provide <br />necessary services, and participate in economic <br />development in some circumstances. <br />A healthy economy adds to all aspects of the <br />community, from jobs to infrastructure to <br />community services. A healthy local economy can <br />strengthen the communitys position as a unique <br />and attractive place to work, live, play, and visit. <br />The goals, policies, and programs contained in this <br />chapter aim to guide the City of Ellensburg in <br />developing a supportive business environment for <br />new and existing businesses with the intent of <br />providing a range of employment opportunities for <br />residents, and a strong tax base for the City. <br />CITY OF ELLENSBURG COMPREHENSIVE PLAN * ENVIRONMENT o PAGE 121 <br />
