1. For all complaints and reports of communicable disease and/or occupational health <br />hazards received by KCPHD, KCPHD will document pertinent information of any <br />potential or verified health issue or incident. <br />2. Diseases that are communicable will be assigned to the Community Health Supervisor. <br />Environmental Health issues will be assigned to the Environmental Health Supervisor. <br />Supervisors may choose to investigate or delegate the investigation to an employee, <br />preferably within that program. <br />a. Depending on the breadth and urgency of the investigation, outside agencies, such <br />as DOH or Ecology, may be involved. <br />b. Food Borne Illness investigations will be led by KCPHD staff with Food <br />Inspector training and will follow established DOH protocols. <br />3. KCPHD will conduct interviews with reporting party. <br />a. If the original complaint or report does not warrant an investigation, interviews <br />may not be conducted. <br />4. KCPHD investigating staff will refer to DOH guidelines regarding reporting procedures, <br />if required. <br />5. KCPHD will be responsible for contacting and updating all regulatory agencies if <br />necessary. <br />6. KCPHD will provide education to partners and providers, as necessary, specific to the <br />hazard or identified disease. <br />7. Investigating staff will notify Health Officer, Administrator, and CH/EH Supervisors of <br />health issues or incidents that require Health Orders, or subsequent compliance checks. <br />8. KCPHD will compile information on health issues or incidents and provide updates to <br />public/agencies as needed. An After Action Report may be required if an investigation <br />resulted in an Order. <br />9. Determination of follow-up that is necessary will be discussed and implemented by <br />Investigating Staff, CH/EH Supervisors, Public Health Administrator, and Public Health <br />Officer. <br />IV. CONCEPT OF OPERATIONS: <br />Protocol for disease investigation may include disease specific procedures outlined by the <br />Washington State Department of Health, contact management, clinical management, mitigation, <br />use of prophylaxis, laboratory coordination, and/or the use of legal authorities for public health <br />hazards or disease control.
