I 19 West First Street
Cie Elum, WA 98922
June 26, 2017
Cie Baum City Council
119 West First Street
Cie Slum, WA 98922
Honorable Mayor and Cie Ehun Council:
-Rr orT»f
Telephone: (509) 674-2262
Fax: (509) 674-4097
wwW.cityofcleelurn.00m
RE: Planning Commission Recommendation of
Downtown Plan Preferred Alternative
The Cie Elum Planning Commission has become involved in the City's Downtown Revitalization
Planning project which is being conducted by City Engineer HLA and sub -consultant Hough Beck
and Baird since April of 2017. This process has included several public formas, gathering numerous
public comments and overwhelming support from the community, downtown businesses, and
downtown building owners, as well as the Washington State Department of Tlansportation, Puget
Sound Energy, the Chamber of Commence, and County Commissioner Laura Osiadacz.
The Commission participated in the June 6* Council/Commission Study Session event where an
informative presentation by HLA, HBB, and City Staff retuned in constructive discussion of
conceptual plan details.
During our regularly scheduled meeting on June 20ei, a large audience attended with requests to
provide comment, which included a few concerns we heel will be addressed during the Preliminary
Engineering Design Phase of the Downtown Revitalization proms. The design phase would
include details such as driveways and individual block configurations, among many other
considerations, and would work with building and business owners to accommodate where passible.
The ctuu rot recommendation is the adoption of a conceptual plan that will guide the specific design
of the core downtown area which the Commission feels will be economically revitalized as a resWt,
and which will lead to s safer walkable downtown to be enjoyed by our community and visitors
well into the future.
In light of this thorough process and information presented to the community, the Commission, and
the Council it is the recommendation of the Planning Commission that the Council adopt the
Downtown Revitalization Plan Preferred Alternative as presented by directing the Mayor to sign
Resolution 2017.011,
Respectfully,
Keary' Clark
Planning Commission Chair
