1 Introduction <br />This section (Section 1) provides the purpose and mission of the <br />document, which include both the restoration of resilient fire <br />adapted ecosystems as well as resilient, fire adapted communities . <br />Section 2 provides a history of this living document and the <br />stakeholders involved in its inception and this update. Section 3 <br />looks at the factors influencing fire, probability, severity, and risk in <br />Kittitas County including demographics, infrastructure, terrain, the <br />location and conditions of all vegetation and other potential fuels, <br />and the conditions specific to the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI). <br />Section 4 begins with a history of fire in Kittitas County and the fire <br />regime before fire suppression efforts began . The section describes <br />tools used by the authors to assess risk at the community level and <br />the strategies that address those risks specifically. The section also <br />includes an analysis of physical conditions, specific concerns, and <br />risks related to ten individual communities (sub areas). <br />Section 5 begins with the goals of a cohesive strategy for Kittitas <br />The idea for community- <br />based forest planning and <br />prioritization is neither novel <br />nor new. Kittitas County <br />communities were reminded <br />by the recent Jolly Mountain <br />fire of the need to engage in <br />comprehensive forest <br />planning and prioritization. <br />This document includes a <br />review of Kittitas County's <br />past fire history and current <br />conditions affecting fire <br />probability, severity, and risk. <br />This plan addresses risks to <br />health, safety and property, <br />and a comprehensive <br />strategy to imp rove <br />resiliency to wildfire. <br />County based on national strategy developed by the U.S. Forest Service (USFS).1 Section 5 also <br />describes past accomplishments with regard to promoting an ecosystem-based fire management, <br />promoting fire adapted communities, preparing communities for wildfire, increasing wildfire <br />response, and responding after fires both in the short and long term.
