Julie Norsvik
From: Laura Osiadacz
Sent: Wednesday,June 27,2018 1:21 PM
To: Julie Kjorsvik
Subject: FW:Washington National Guard access and use of Bower's Field
Laura Osiadacz (0-Shaw-Dis)
Kittitas County Commissioner, District#2
205 W 5th Ave. Ste. 108
Ellensburg, WA 98926-2887
Office 509-962-7508
Fax 509-962-7679
http://www.co.kittitas.wa.us
From: Rich Elliott [mailto:elliottr@kvfr.org]
Sent: Friday, March 30, 2018 5:03 PM
To: Darren Higashiyama; Mark Cook; John Sinclair; larue@gensi.com
Cc: akersi@ci.ellensburg.wa.us; tabbb@ci.ellensbura.wa.us; Obie O'Brien; Paul Jewell; Laura Osiadacz
Subject: Washington National Guard access and use of Bower's Field
Terry LaRue stopped by this afternoon to discuss some concerns and planning efforts he had been working on with Josh
Hink related to a designated staging area for National Guard helicopters. My understanding is that there is/has been a
designated area for National Guard helicopters when they deploy to or base out of Kittitas County. That area (near gate
18) has deteriorated and there are some significant issues with vegetation that would need to be addressed prior to a
deployment—particularly when the vegetation is a fire hazard.
The county and Sheriff's office are lead on this. Chief Sinclair and I have only a partial stake in this matter. We view the
National Guard resources as potentially invaluable in the (hopefully) rare chance that we will need them and would like
to insure that we have a basic infrastructure to support their deployment and operations. We are advocating that this
issue be addressed as representatives of KVFR and from the emergency management perspective for the City of
Ellensburg. If there is anything we can do to facilitate a workable solution (possibly assist with vegetation removal),
please let us know.
Rich Elliott—Deputy Fire Chief
Kittitas Valley Fire and Rescue
509-201-6280
Notice:Email sent to Kittitas County may be subject to public disclosure as required by law.
messageid:38eb45916c6dcbdac24bb8719d004a14
1
