6.01.280 Dog bites to be reported. <br />Any person who is billen by a doo and is exposed to dog saUva through an open wound on lhe person , or any <br />doctor , veterinarian or hospital employee having lnformalion that a person has been bitte n by a dog and been <br />exposed to dog saliva through an open wound within lhe unincorporated te rritory of the CoLlnty shall notity the <br />depart ment of such bite or exposure, giving the description of the dog . the name and address of the owner, and the <br />location of the incident. if known to said person . <br />ARTICLE IV: IMPOUNDMENT <br />6.01.290 Impoundment of Dogs <br />Dogs fot/nd or reasonably beHeved to be keg'! in violation of th is Chapter may be impounded by the department; <br />provided that, If a comp laint identify ing the dog owne r of a dog at large is received and the dog owner can be <br />immediately located , the dog shall be left with the dog owner. and a summons and notice 10 appear in regard to the <br />violation may be issued 10 such dog owne r. The owner or custod ian of any impounded dog sha n be responsible for <br />all costs to impound and care for the dog. Any dog which has been Impounded and appears sick or injured may be <br />re ferred 10 a licensed veter inar ian for medical care at the discretion of the department. All costs for medical care <br />sha ll also be the responSibilitv of the owner or custodian . <br />6.01,300 Interference with Impou ndi ng. <br />It is unlawful for anv person to interfere with , hinder. delay or impede any officer or enforcing official in the <br />enforcem ent of this chapter as herein provided . Any person found guilty of a viol atio n of this Section shall be fi ne d <br />one hundred twenly-five dollars ($125.00) for each violation. <br />6.01.310 Notice of Impoundment <br />1. The deRarlmen! or its des ignee shall. within twenty ·four hours afte r impounding any <br />dog. or the next business day: <br />(a) attempt to contact the an1mal owner by phone: and <br />(b) leave a wr itten notice at horne or by mail to the registered owner of the dog containing : <br />(i) a notice of lhe impoundment of such dog ; aM <br />(ii) the terms upon which such dog can be rereased: and <br />(iii) the conseguences of failu re to obta in the release of any dog within any <br />applicable time lim its . <br />2. If th e OWner of any impounded dog is unknown . then the department or its designee <br />sha ll wi thin twenty-four hours of impoundme nt or by the end of the next bus iness day <br />post at the animal shelter a notlce of impoundment describin g the do g. <br />6.01.320 Recovery of impounded dogs. <br />1. A dog wearing a dog tag, tattoo or microch ip may be re covered within five business <br />days of impoundment. Dogs not wearing a dog tag , tattoo or microchip maY be <br />recovered wit hin U\ree business days of impoundment Injured or sick dogs shall be <br />exempt from these recovery periods . <br />2. Dogs may be recovered only by a person who offers satisfactory proof · of ownership or <br />authorization 10 obla in custody of the dog . prese nts satisfactory proof of current rabies vaccinat ion and who pays the <br />charges for recovering impounded dogs as established by Ihe department. <br />2017 Docket Enabling Ordinance <br />Ord. # 2018-001 <br />Page 83 <br />January 2,2018
