enforcement position, such as Certified Peace Officer, within the twenty-four (24) <br />months prior to application as a lateral for Corrections Officer . <br />Applicants who otherwise meet the definition of Lateral Hire, but who do not have <br />training or certification recognized by the Washington State Criminal Justice Training <br />Commission cannot be considered a lateral hire. <br />B. SECURITY OFFICER : A Lateral shall be defined as any new lateral hi r e who has not <br />less than twelve (12) consecutive months of full time, compensated years of law <br />enforcement, corrections or security officer experience, who successfully completed <br />a probationary period from a recognized law enforcement entity and who has <br />successfully completed one of the following: <br />• Basic Law Enforcement Academy Certification training from the Washington <br />State Criminal Justice Training Center; <br />• Equivalent State Law Enforcement Training Academy; <br />• State Recognized Reserve Law Enforcement Academy; <br />• Another local, State or Federal Law Enforcement Training program recognized by <br />the WSCJTC; and, <br />who has not been separated from full time law enforcement, corrections, or security <br />employment for a period of time greater than twenty~f0ur 1241 months at the time <br />of application to the Sheriff's Office . <br />Applicants who otherwise meet the definition of Lateral Hire, but who do not have <br />training or certification recognized by the Washington State Criminal Justice Training <br />Commission cannot be considered a lateral hire. <br />C. LATERAL SALARY: An applicant selected for appointment as a lateral, at the <br />discretion of the Sheriff, may begin working at Step 2 of the current bargained wage <br />scale for the specific classification . Those who possess documented unique, specific <br />or particularly sought after experience and/or training, at the discretion of the <br />Sheriff, may begin working at Step 3 of the current bargained wage scale for the <br />specific classification. <br />Applicants selected for appointment that possess Basic Law Enforcement Training <br />recognized by the WSCJTC, but who are from another State or Federal Agency, are <br />required by law to successfully pass the WSCJTC Equivalency Academy prior to being <br />certified in Washington State. Consequently, any employee hired who is not at the <br />time of appointment Certified in Washington State, will be hired at the entry level <br />(Step 1) of the current bargained wage scale for the specific classification. Upon this <br />employee successfully obtaining the necessary Certification in Washington State, <br />that employee may request or petition the Sheriff in writing to have their salary step <br />increased . Any such increase granted shall be at the discretion of the Sheriff. <br />Officers so requesting may be allowed a salary step increase as outlined in the <br />Kittitas County Corrections Contract -01/01/16 -12/31/18 Page 7
