THERMO FLUIDS Title: Spill Reporting Policy No: 300.12.00 Issued: 2/11/2010 Revised: 2/21/2013 Originator: Approved: BH PURPOSE: The purpose of this policy is to communicate spills to TFI ma nag ement in a prompt manner so spill can be assessed and the proper response can be coordinated to stop the spill, contain the spill and clean up the spill. DEFINmON: Spills include all d ischarges of any volume of liquid into water or in excess of 1 gallon spilled into the free environment. This definition includes discharges to secondary containment stru ctures. We also report spill "near misses", client caused spills, client overflows from late or missed service events and TFI caused spills wh ich mayor may not have resulted in a release. We categorize spills according to: • Location (TFI property, client property, or public property/highways) • Type (Client caused, TFI caused) • Nature (during transport, during loading/unloading events, during tank transfers, or other) Prudent reporting of releases will minimize impact, reduce clean-up costs and decrease response time. For this reason, TFI requires immediate notification of any known releases at client locations and will assist with release response. PROCEDURE: General Response to Spills: • Notify TFI management, who in turn will mobilize additional resources to help with containment/clean up. TFI management will notify regulatory authorities as required. • Evacuate all non-personnel to a safe distance • Stop or control spill. Refer to the facility Contingency Plan for specific instructions. • If safe to proceed, mobilize immediately available resources to contain spill and clean up. Reporting Requirements: Failure to report an accident in a timely manner is grounds for termination. When safe to do so, immediately notify your TFI Area Manager who will in turn immediately notify TFI EH&s. Page 1 of 2
