Easton School District No. 28
P. O. Box 8
1893 Railroad Street
Easton, Washington 98925
(509) 656-2317 fax (509) 656-2585
www.easton.wednet.edu
June 13, 2017
Re: Marian Meadows Development
Dear Kittitas County Community Development Services,
I would like to share my concerns of the impact that the proposed Marian Meadows
Development will have on Easton School District. I am the superintendent of Easton
School District, a position that I have held over the past nine years. I have lived in
Easton over the past twenty two years and I have had the pleasure of raising my family in
this wonderful small town. It was a lifelong dream to live in the Easton community
because my parents had a cabin on Lake Kachess and my fondest memories come from
the times that we spent at our cabin.
I have read the Marian Meadows Rezone and Subdivision Final Environmental Impact
Statement and, in particular, I have carefully reviewed Section 3.4 that pertains to public
schools. This section is labeled as Section 3.4 Public Services — Schools and can be
located on pages 124-139 in the Final Environmental Impact Statement. I will be
referring to this document when I provide clarifying information and/or share my
concerns.
Background Information on Easton School
Easton School District is a rural school district located in the Cascade Mountains. There
are approximately 110 students, Preschool through the 12`h grade who attend Easton
School. Easton School District is located in Upper Kittitas County and the boundaries
extend from the top of Snoqualmie Summit to West Nelson Siding Road (Exit 74 on I-
90). Easton is surrounded by spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, rivers and
lakes. There are numerous year-round activities to enjoy, including some of the best
snowmobile trails in the state, and the summer offers some of the best outdoor activities
in the county.
Easton School has a caring staff and offers a small school atmosphere where students
actively participate and there is a high level of personal interaction between the staff,
students, parents and local community. Easton School offers small classes, personalized
attention and extra support for early learners. Easton School offers preschool and full-
day kindergarten, and paraprofessionals assist the classroom teachers and provide
additional support to students in small group sessions. Easton School is able to take full
advantage of the mountainous, outdoor setting to bring valuable life-long experiences to
