THERMO %)RUIDS-
The Responsible Solution
Policies & Procedures
Title: Driver Qualification Policy Number: 070.11.00
Category: Transportation (DOT) Issue Date: 09/17/2007
Status: Active Expiration Date:
PURPOSE:
The Goa/ is a safe driving fleet. TFI strives to reduce vehicle accidents and spills by hiring qualified
drivers. This policy identifies minimum safety guidelines to qualify potential applicants for a driving
position. Every TFI applicant considered for driving TFI vehicles over 10,001 pounds shall maintain a
completed driver qualification file for the length of his or her employment.
BACKGROUND:
This policy will outline the minimum Department of Transportation (DOT) driver qualification requirements
for hire at TFI. Each driver selected for hire must complete required pre -hire forms. The TFI area
managers initiate the driver qualification process. Under no circumstances are new -hires to begin driving
TFI vehicles with an incomplete driver qualification file.
All forms are in the TFI reference library in the Forms & Templates section. In the library, navigate to the
Human Resources category and select New Hire Packet -Driver. Open the adobe PDF file and print the
file. The list in Table 1 outlines the forms and who is responsible for completing them.
It is estimated the process will require 3-5 business days and managers should plan accordingly. During
this review period it is recommended to have the new hire complete the TFI New Hire Job Training
Checklist and New Employee Orientation Checklist. Both forms are located in the TFI reference library in
the Human Resources category.
PROCEDURE:
Complete New Hire Packet -Driver forms. Instructions for submitting documents are located in the
New Hire Packet -Driver.
2. Review the forms for completeness. Timely, neat and complete forms will speed up the hiring
process.
3. Forms should be submitted to Human Resources.
4. The DOT file will be stored and managed at the corporate office.
5. Management of the files will managed by TFI EH&S. Annual MVR inquires, filing annual
employee
EH&S. motor violation forms and record keeping of biennial DOT physicals will by completed by TFI
