M_Washington State System Integration (two pages)
FF Department of Transportation
Describe the system integration problems your proposal addresses. For example, indicate how
your proposal:
• improves multimodal connections and service
• establishes or improves connections between counties or urban centers
• exemplifies coordination among jurisdictions and/or
• improves the use of demand management strategies to leverage existing services and
programs, including Growth and Transportation Efficiency Center programs
• Limit your response to two pages
Improves Multi -modal Connections and Service:
The proposed Park and Ride lot off of 1-90, at Exit 78 will improve multi -modal connections
and services by encouraging the use of car and van pooling, raising the awareness of the
public about alternative forms of transportation, reduce emissions and reduce the use of fossil
fuels. By providing a safe and convenient parking facility, Kittitas County and WSDOT are
encouraging the consolidation of travelers and the reduction of single occupancy vehicles on
the road.
Establishes or Improves Connections Between Counties or Urban Centers:
The proposed park and ride location is currently used illegally by commuters as an unofficial
park and ride. The commuters have established a visible need for improved facilities in this
location. Our project will establish the first park and ride within Kittitas County, in a location
East of Snoqualmie Pass along 1-90, providing better connectivity between Kittitas County and
the Puget Sound Region.
Exemplifies Coordination Among Jurisdictions and/or Improves the use of Demand
Management Strategies to Leverage Existing Services and programs, including Growth and
Transportation Efficiency Center Programs:
1-90 over Snoqualmie Pass is the major east/west corridor within Washington State. The
Kittitas County 1-90, Exit 78 Park and Ride project improves the use of Demand Management
Strategies, within Kittitas County, by providing and encouraging commuters to drive less by
organizing car or van pools.
