April 14,2017
Lodging Tax Advisory Committee
City of Ellensburg
501 N.Anderson St
EIIensburg,WA 98926
RE:Kittitas Valley Event Center Upgrades and Remodels (Barn Project).
The Kittitas County Junior Livestock Sale Committee is in full support of the Kittitas
Valley Event Center Upgrades and Remodels (Barn Project).
The Barns Project would promote tourism and community in Kittitas County by providing
a highly useable space for a multi-use area for a variety of events year-round and Sale
Committee supports this effort wholeheartedly. The annual Junior Livestock Sale,
associated with the fair, allows 4-H and FFA food animal exhibitors to auction off one of
their market animals to local buyers, mostly local businesses. This is a major community
event which brings in over $400,000 per year in direct sales revenue;4-H and FFA
youth often use this income as college funds. The Sale Committee does not want to see
limits on how many youth can participate in livestock shows and the Sale for want of
adequate facility space.
Respectfully,
Brad Haberman,President
Kittitas County Junior Livestock Sale Committee
WSU Extcusion Programs and employmem am available lo all without discrimination
Evidenceof noncompliance may be reported through your local WSU Extension office
