criminal activity or the potential for disciplinary action, the employee after consulting with the <br />Union may agree to a stipulated polygraph. <br />ARTICLE 7 — DEFINITIONS OF EMPLOYEES <br />7.1 Regular LineD_epu_t_y: A regular line deputy is a full-time uniformed employee as defined in RCW <br />41.56.030(13) who has been approved by the Civil Service Commission, has served his probationary <br />period and is employed on a regular basis. Such employee shall be paid the wage rate and be <br />provided the benefits established in the terms and conditions of this Collective Bargaining <br />Agreement. <br />7.2 Probationary Employee: A probationary employee shall be defined as any new hire that has never <br />been employed by the Employer during the previous twelve (12) calendar months, and has not <br />completed twelve (12) calendar months of service with the Employer since the first day of <br />employment, or eight (8) months of service since receipt of Peace Officer Certification, whichever is <br />later. Probationary employees shall work under the provisions of this Agreement but shall be only <br />on a trial basis, during which period said employee may be discharged without recourse. The <br />probationary status of an employee who has not attended the basic law enforcement training <br />course is addressed in Section 7.3 below. <br />Probationary Status Limitations: Any probationary employee who, through no fault of his own, is <br />unable to attend and complete the appropriate basic law enforcement training course within the <br />probationary period set forth in Section 7.2 above, shall be entitled to the benefits accorded regular <br />employee status with the exception that said employee must satisfactorily complete said <br />appropriate basic law enforcement training course within fifteen (15) calendar months from the <br />first day of employment subject to the following conditions: <br />A. The Employer agrees to encourage and make provisions for the training of new employees. <br />B. If an employee fails to attend or satisfactorily complete the appropriate basic law enforcement <br />training course within fifteen (15) calendar months from the first day of employment, said <br />employee shall be terminated without recourse except as noted in C. <br />C. In the event the Sheriff petitions the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission for <br />an extension of the fifteen (15) calendar month time limitation with respect to a particular <br />employee and said extension is granted, then if said employee fails to satisfactorily complete the <br />appropriate basic law enforcement training course, said employee shall be terminated without <br />recourse. <br />7.3 Reserve _Unit: There shall exist at the option of the Employer a reserve unit of law enforcement <br />reserve deputies to which the provisions of this labor agreement shall not apply. The Employer will <br />notify regular employees by posting the commissioned versus non-commissioned status of reserve <br />law enforcement deputies. Regular employees, as required by the Employer, shall work with reserve <br />law enforcement deputies regardless of commissioned versus non-commissioned status.
