Page 6│Kittitas County Air Quality Survey│9/30/2014

In 2012, a steering committee of key community partners was gathered to identffy and prioritfze
issues affectfng the health of the local community. Issues were identffied based on data from the
2012 Kittitas County Community Health Assessment. Poor air quality was identffied as an area of
concern, however, a lack of financial resources prevented the issue from becoming an immediate
priority. Ecology recognized the need for support and partnered with KCPHD to implement an air
quality project. The project would begin with a county wide assessment and conclude with an
educatfon and outreach campaign to minimize the impact of improper burning behaviors. The
primary objectfves of this assessment were to collect community informatfon and determine the
following:
Beliefs and attitudes regarding air quality
General knowledge level regarding air quality in Kittitas County
General knowledge around clean burning practfces
Inventory of residentfal wood burning appliances and indoor burning practfces
Prevalence of outdoor burning behaviors that contribute to PM2.5
Effectfve avenues for educatfon and outreach
FIGURE 3: KCPHD Logic Model for Assessment
