PROCLAMATION <br />"hrtemational Overdose Awareness D ay" <br />August 31',2026 <br />Whereas, Kittitas County does affirm and acknowledge the harm and hardship caused by drug overdose; and <br />Whereas, We recognize the purpose of International Overdose Awareness Day as remembering loved ones lost to <br />overdose and ending the stigma of drug-related deaths; and <br />Whereas, We resolve to play our part in reducing the toll of overdose in our community, whrch claimed the'lives of 3,068 <br />Washington State residents in the year 2025 with cor-rntless more aff-ected forever; and <br />Whereas, We recognize that in 2025, Kittitas County lost 9 individuals to overdose; and <br />Whereas, We recognize that First Responders in Kittitas County have responded to an increased number of substance <br />use-related calls in this past year; and <br />Whereas, We afhrm that the people aff-ected by overdose are our family, friends, and community members who are <br />deserving of our love, compassion, and support; and <br />Whereas, Death from overdose is preventable <br />Whereas, There continue to be deaths from stimulant use; and <br />Whereas, Overdose continues to increase both medical and other economic costs greatly impacting our society; and <br />Whereas, Substance Use Disorder is a treatable disease and the stigma and shame often are a barrier to seeking help; and <br />TI{EREFORE, Kittitas County does hereby proclaim August 31" ,2026, as International Overdose Awareness Day which <br />will be honored r,vith an event on Monday, August 31" 2026 at Mountain View Park l-3pm' <br />ADOPTED this 4th day of August2026. <br />THE KITTITAS <br />OF CO <br />acz, Vice-Chairman <br />an <br />J Clerk of the Board <br />Vacant, Commissioner
